Our minds are powerful and we have more control over our beings than we realize. When anxiety and other uncomfortable feelings start to overcome us there are things we can do stop the spiral. The first thing is to take at least three deep breaths. This brings us into the now, starts to oxygenate the blood, and begins the process of lowering the hormones associated with the flight, fight, or freeze response (adrenaline and cortisol). Next is to pick a color that you want to draw more of into your life. Start breathing in that color. Fill your being with tranquil blue, healing green, loving pink, grounding brown, protective purple, etc. as you do this envision your body releasing your anxiety, fear, worries, what ever is weighing you down and start to fill up with your color of choice. Finally, pick a mantra and start to repeat it to yourself. It can be something as simple as “I am safe, I am calm, I am love.” or you can make it something very complicated. I have found for me, the simpler I make my mantras the more it will resonate in my being. Continue this process of breathing in your color and saying your mantra until you have returned to a feeling of peace and control.
